The Cow Hollow Residence was an ambitious four-story remodel within a compact footprint. Enlarged windows on the Master Bedroom Level offer scenic views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Mt. Tamalpais, and Alcatraz. A giant oak tree practically invades the Living Room and the other bedrooms below. Structural enhancement of the north façade was required to accommodate such pervasive use of glass. The project includes both horizontal and vertical expansion of the building envelope with three renovated bathrooms and one completely rebuilt kitchen.
This residential renovation allowed MH Architects the opportunity to explore large north-facing windows to harvest natural light and blend the interior with the surrounding exterior foliage. The stairway was deliberately kept open to promote a loft-like feel.
Punctuated by ample windows, this compact kitchen balances organized storage with circulation and flow. The natural material palette is characterized by soft earth tones that reflect the ample ambient light.
